Having built a PCB with an SMT version of the PIC18F2455, we now need some way of programming the microcontroller, while it is in place in the board.
Normally we'd stick to through-hole components which are easy to work with but have been on a bit of an SMT spree lately. We built a ZIF based programmer for an iCP01 PicKit2 clone a while back - but for that you need to put the chip into the ZIF socket to program it.
This programming header works slightly differently in that you place it over the PIC while it is in place on the board. Press down lightly to make sure all five pins are making contact and hold in place while the programming software does it's stuff.
